Places to Travel Without a Passport

By Hannah Hanson | September 7, 2021

With the world slowly reopening, many Americans have begun to make preparations for international travel. Safe to say that the pandemic days are finally getting behind us. Now might be a good time to open your drawers and clean the dust off of your travel documents.

But don’t worry if you find your passport expired. Many people are experiencing similar situations. The good news is, you could still find places to travel without a passport. So, it is better to apply for a passport extension and pack your bags for an amazing trip to these places.

1. Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico is situated in the Caribbean. The local government announced its decision to let in visitors in September 2020. It also relaxed several lockdown measures earlier this year. However, several restrictions are still in place. The state has made it mandatory for visitors to upload their vaccine cards. Unvaccinated travelers, on the other hand, are required to show proof of a negative COVID-19 test result. It is pertinent to mention here that travelers must take the test within the first three days of travel.

2. U.S. Virgin Islands

If you have visited the tourism website for U.S. Virgin Islands, chances are you have come across the statement: “No passport required for U.S. citizens.” The Virgin Islands are home to islands like St. John, St. Croix, and St. Thomas. Visitors must use the travel screening portal of the U.S. Virgin Islands before traveling to the U.S. territory. Moreover, all travelers must show proof of a negative coronavirus test or a positive antibodies test within four months of traveling.

3. American Samoa

American Samoa is located in the southmost region of the South Pacific. It is one of the best places to spend your holidays. And there are tons of reasons to support the argument. It is an affordable travel destination. So, if you’re traveling on a budget then add American Samoa to the top of your list. This U.S. territory also has an abundance of eco-tourism. It is pertinent to mention here that Hawaiian Airlines will permit flights from September onwards.

4. Guam

Guam sits in the Western Pacific. It hosts many military installations. Travelers from Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, the Philippines, and Hawaii frequently visit Guam. It is worth mentioning here that American visitors can enter Guam via Hawaii without a passport. However, visitors must fulfill several requirements. These include proof of vaccination or a negative coronavirus test (taken within 72 hours of arrival). Those who are traveling after three months of recovering from the virus do not need to quarantine upon arrival.

5. Cruise Ships

This is more of transport than an actual location. Many cruise ships have begun their trips following months of lockdown. Many of these cruises began and end their journey at the same U.S ports. Locations these cruise ships cover include Alaska, the Bahamas, Mexico, and the Caribbean. The good news is, these are some of the best places to travel without a passport. So, pack your bags and find a great cruise to visit different places.
