Places to Rent Cheap One Bedroom Apartments

By Hannah Hanson | April 26, 2021

If you are looking at big cities to rent cheap one bedroom-apartments, stop right away in your search effort. Metropolises like New York are among the most expensive cities in the United States. A single-unit room apartment in big cities runs an average of $2,000-3,000 a month.

The good news is, you can find affordable apartments in suburbs and small towns. In fact, there are close to a hundred cities in the U.S. where apartment rents are extremely low. Most of these places are located in the country’s south.

Below is a list of the most cost-effective cities in America.

East Grand Forks

Sitting at the top of our rankings is East Grand Forks. The Minnesota locality sits across the Red River. The rental rates for apartments in East Grand Forks went down 14% during the last 12 months. A single-unit room runs an average of $442 per month.

The EFG community hosts many festivals including Heritage Days, Frosty Bobber fishing tournament, and Catfish Days. Other festivities include First Night and Potato Bowl Parade. Moreover, EFG features several attractions like a flood memorial, a state compound, and a wildlife reserve to name a few.

Patterson

The small town of Patterson originally went by the name Dutch Settlement. It was founded by German immigrants who arrived in Pennsylvania in the 17th century. The locality witnessed several changes to its original name. The locals renamed it Dutch Prairie and later Dutch Tow. It wasn’t until 1832 that the settlement got the name, Patterson.

Today, Patterson is home to over 6,000 residents and is one of the most sought-after places to rent cheap one-bedroom apartments. You can get a single-unit room for just $485 a month. What’s more, you won’t run out of fast-food places because Patterson’s got plenty of pizza outlets and chain restaurants.

Marion

Rental rates in Marion have dropped by 0.21% in the past 12 months. A single-unit apartment runs an average of $533 a month. In fact, it is one of the cheapest big cities (with a population of over 20,000 people) for renters in America. Notable attractions are Mississinewa River and Mississinewa Riverwalk. Additionally, you will find the Quilters Hall of Fame as well as Baldwin and Western Avenues.

Apart from accommodating Indiana Wesleyan (Indiana’s largest private educational institute), Marion serves one of the six branches of the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers. Several parks, hiking places, stores, and restaurants also dot the county seat of Grant County.

Pascagoula

Pascagoula is a stunning place that sits along the brilliant Gulf Coast. It is home to some of the best beaches and bays in the United States. That is the reason behind the city’s popularity among beachgoers, golfers, and spring breakers. Picture this, a beach-facing one-bed apartment. Want to know how much you’d have to pay in monthly rent? Just $540.

While in Pascagoula, you’ll come across numerous parks, boat launches, and a private yacht club. Notable attractions are Mississippi Maritime Museum, LaPointe-Krebs House & Museum, Market Street, and Denny Avenue. Such great places to visit and what’s the cost of living, just several hundred bucks.

While apartment rentals have increased over the last 12 months, Pascagoula is still one of the best places to get affordable apartment complexes. Amazing, isn’t it?

Texarkana

Looking for easy living? Come to Texarkana. The city sits a few miles away from its twin Texarkana, Texas. The name Texarkana is a triple portmanteau of Texas, Arkansas, and Louisiana. You’ll find affordable one-bed units in the Arkansas side of the city where the monthly rent is as low as $542. That’s just too good to be true, but it is.
